MUSICAL WORKS BY KATHRYN POTTER

Welcome to a smorgasbord of my works. Here you can sample some of the diverse facets of musical composition available to commission. I am available to compose solo to large ensemble works ranging from 1 minute to 2 hours, I do set text (with permission of the author), compose for any and all acoustic instruments of the orchestra, create electronic sound sculptures and electronic sound sculptures in tandem with instrument(s).

The ultimate niche I offer is composing music to take a specific musician or group into a new terrain of musical fulfillment.

In my gallery you can listen, look, explore and wander into the various musical worlds I am itching to unfold - there is something for every pallet.

I love to create custom works for living breathing people aching to experience a new world sonically, and then hearing about where it takes them.

You are in a rare and wonderful position - to order something very special for yourself or someone you adore. It is so simple to enquire and I can determine the "color, fragrance, terrain, texture, and cut" to create a new experience in your world of sound. Instead of adjusting oneself to fit into an old costume - you can experience music created to fit you perfectly, complete with a pair of wings and magic slippers to take you where you've never been dancing before!

So enjoy your traveling, feel free to wander and roam here, and elsewhere on the site too. Peace and joy to you -

- Kathryn

This four movement duet for pipe organ and double bass is very dark, chromatic and lush. It is equally passionate and intellectual for the purpose of depicting levels of despair. An e dorian melody graces the lament and the chromatic fugue of despair is intensified with polytonality. Kathryn’s first masterpiece and available to purchase on the SHOP PAGE.

DOPLER'S CAT

Serious fun! A short solo oboe etude (great for an encore or start to a recital) in rhapsodic form containing melodic material, challenging 20th century techniques (with explanation per Bruno Bartolozzi's "New sounds for winds") and structured improvisation. This piece involves lots of pitch bending from 1/4 tone # to 1/4 tone b, plus multi phonics to justify the title! See November 2007 blog "Dopler's Cat" for more!
