THE OBOE BRILLIANCE MUSIC STUDIO
About
Founded in 1992 by Kathryn Potter, now renamed and relocated in the Grove Park neighborhood in Asheville NC. This lovely studio is on the top flat of an historic 1926 home and feels like a fancy tree fort with a clear view into and out of the studio as it looks out over the lane with a partial view of the mountain sunsets in the trees. Birds often provide contrapuntal melodies!
All oboists receive private customized teaching by Kathryn only, using the OBOE BRILLIANCE method focused on the development and nurturing of technically strong, artistically invigorating, and an emotionally healthy approach to oboe playing from the beginner to professional. In the future this method will be taught to other oboists who can then use it for their studios.

FOR STUDENTS FROM BEGINNER TO PROFESSIONAL

For the Passionate Student
For students who are more than Serious – Passionate about learning the Oboe! Sign up to this package and receive 8 hours of lessons each month, 2 reeds and all the music you need. The cost is $500 per month.
For the Serious Student
Students who are serious about learning the Oboe will receive 6 hours of lessons each month, 1 reed and all the music needed for only $400 per month.
For the Keen Student
Students who sign up to this package receive 4 hours of lessons each month, 1 reed and all the music needed. A superb valued package for students who are keen to play the Oboe. Only $300 per month.
The above packages also include Oboe Brilliance Studio ensemble opportunities and one custom composition for every 100 hours of home practice.
Flute, Piano, Music Appreciation and Composition Lessons
Available upon request through individual appointment. Prices are negotiable.
For the Part-Time Student
It can be hard to find the time – especially amongst other studies or work.
With this package students receive their music al a carte and are provided with 1 reed and 2 hours of lessons each month. A low $150 per month.
Custom Packages
Are you a traveling Oboist or would like to brush up on old skills? Call me to schedule a lesson(s). I will design a package that suits your specific needs.
One Hour Lessons
One hour lessons are also available but need to be scheduled and paid for in advance. Sorry – No rescheduling! Just $55 per hour.

Students and parents of students interested in learning to play the Oboe should fill in this online form. After receiving your details Kathryn will contact you as soon as possible to arrange an interview. Students under the age of 18 must have their parents consent before filling in this form.
Important Information
Tuition is non refundable and due by the 7th of each month. If a lesson is missed due to illness, inclement weather, or emergency, it will be either rescheduled upon request within 8 weeks, or if that is not possible, tuition will be applied towards another month. This is my guarantee to you. However, if a lesson is canceled less than 48 hours due to a scheduling oversight or even forgotten, I keep the tuition fee for that lesson. contracts are reviewed and renewed the last week of each month.
As an extra special Bonus - Any students who maintains a clear practice log and meets the practicing requirements will receive custom compositions by me specifically for them.
Regularly scheduled students who are competing or getting ready for a special performance will receive an extra reed and lesson upon request in advance. For all of my regular students I will endeavor to provide at least one recital opportunity for you each year and some creative ensemble opportunities for students above level II.
