With her indepth training from the top oboists and composers of London to New York, this San Francisco Conservatory graduate in Composition, also uses her decades of experience in meditation, performance, dance, motherhood, and over fifteen years of teaching and coaching experience to deliberately, devotedly and specifically encourage, celebrate, nurture and bring out the very best in the individuals and ensembles for whom she writes.

The unique music flowing from either her quill, oboe, or computer, inspires people and animals. Her oboe mentor, Lois Wann said:-

Her music is both unpredictable, and just what is needed, giving a profoundly rare voice to the world in each piece with passion, intuition, and a meticulous level of design.

Kathryn's custom musical design work for individuals is carefully constructed for the specific need, desire, purpose, instrument, and occasion. Often both fulfilling and challenging yet always in reach, Kathryn guarantees 100% satisfaction of all her commissioned work. Kathryn is committed to providing her clients with original music that fast forwards them to a higher and deeper place in their relationship with music. All recipients of her music become "stretched" and she promisses to give them more than they expected through her guidance and leadership.

Kathryn's younger years were full of oboe competitions where she scored highest marks in expression and technique at the top level of difficulty through NYSMA while coached by Peter Hertling. She is finely tuned and skilled at creating one of a kind solo and competition pieces for virtuosi professionals and apsiring students alike.

Ms. Potter has composed for world class professional instrumentalists such as multi continent concertising harpsichordist Gideon Meir, globe trotter double Grammy award winner bassist Eliot Wadopian, virtuosi cellist Meredith Blecha, and trombonist / conductor Heather Buchman.

Kathryn greatly enjoys performing her oboe works, and has composed and premiered high service Lutheran pieces. She is also delighted to have finally broken in her long awaited new Rosewood Laubin oboe.

Kathryn continues to perform private concerts occasionally and can be hired to visit oboe studios, mentor oboe teachers, lecture about the teaching and / or creation of music, or give unique workshops at musical camps and institutions.

I have a unique approach to composing, that is, when I approach it as quite often, my muse approaches me! So, composing for me is a pas de deux with my muse.
