Dear Guests, Welcome to my blog which I treat like a creative garden where I regularly plant and change this and that be it poetry, philosophy, an Oboe Brilliance lesson, an essay of some kind, or a journal about composing. Visit every Monday for oboe coaching which is also helpful for many melodic instrumentalists. Musically yours, Kathryn

"How do you compose?" That is the most commonly asked question I hear.
This blog is a window into my creative process and philosophies as a composer and instrumentalist. At times it may contain music, photos, and poetry as well. May you enjoy, return, and benefit!

In Memory/revised

In Memory (see Nov 14th for revision)

bark holds water black
nesting shadow’s bold

birds flee South
Autumn scolds

How shall I reveal

syrup’s hidden taste
sun beet kisses fate

while hoar frost withers gold?

In my last poem, I deliberately avoided adjectives as a disciplinary exercise. Now I threw some in and became compulsive with editing. It begged for rhythm and rhyme. Other versisions while I was revising this one were more punctuated in rhythm like:

bark holds water back black
nesting shadow's moss bold ....

but the sound of it took away from the intuitive feel I was after, so I cut it down and changed the meter.

Musically and poetically yours,
Kathryn
