Dear Guests, Welcome to my blog which I treat like a creative garden where I regularly plant and change this and that be it poetry, philosophy, an Oboe Brilliance lesson, an essay of some kind, or a journal about composing. Visit every Monday for oboe coaching which is also helpful for many melodic instrumentalists. Musically yours, Kathryn

"How do you compose?" That is the most commonly asked question I hear.
This blog is a window into my creative process and philosophies as a composer and instrumentalist. At times it may contain music, photos, and poetry as well. May you enjoy, return, and benefit!

Sculpture for Soto

Have you ever wondered what painters, poets, writers, actors, etc inspire the composers of today? Perhpas you've enjoyed learning about what composers of the past believed, read, what or whom inspired them?

Well although I find inspiration every where, I've finally found a painter this Winter, that not only inspires me, but helps take my artform of composing into a higher place.

There is a painter alive today who is a twin, living in France who creates abstract oil paintings named Christian Soto. There are other painters named Christian Soto too, so if you research, make sure you find the right one which you can confirm with the above information.

I love his paintings which are abstract, heavily textured, beautiful, colorful, powerful and expressive. He is self taught.

For me, his paintings open a doorway into new visceral and emotional worlds -

related to a dream realm, although I wouldn't describe his paintings themselves as dreamy at all, but they are moving with rhythm and life like the energy in a dream and contain an element of mystery.

Musically Yours,
Kathryn
